Every day since December 15, Epic Games Store users have been able to log in and claim a new game for their collection. These games have ranged in genre and scope quite significantly. For example, the first Epic Games Store free mystery game given away as part of this year’s promotion was tower defense game Bloons TD 6, which is pretty obscure. However, Epic Games Store users have also been treated to bigger games, like Metro: Last Light and three old-school Fallout games. The biggest game given away so far was easily Death Stranding, though there was some confusion as the Director’s Cut version of the game was given away at first before being replaced by the standard edition.

There is unlikely to be a similar controversy with the Epic Games Store free game for December 27, which users can claim now. For those unfamiliar with the game, Severed Steel is a stylish, action-packed first-person shooter game that originally released in 2021 to mostly positive reviews. Anyone interested will need to log in to the Epic Games Store or boot up the Epic Games Store launcher and claim the game by Wednesday, December 28 at 10:00am CT, at which point it will be replaced by the next free game in the lineup.
Epic Games Store Free Games List
Severed Steel (December 27) Mortal Shell (December 28 - leaked)
The Epic Games Store itself has not announced what the next free game will be. All fans have to go by on an official basis is some wrapping paper that hints at what the next title is, but a reliable leaker has let the cat out of the bag early. According to the leaks, the Epic Games Store free game for December 28 is none other than Soulslike game Mortal Shell. There’s a chance the Epic Games Store could surprise its users and sub in a different free game instead, but that seems unlikely to happen.
The leaker who leaked Severed Steel as the December 27 Epic Games Store free game and Mortal Shell as the December 28 game isn’t revealing the December 29 game because they said it’s from a “good franchise” and it “doesn’t deserve to be leaked.” Barring any leaks from other sources, it seems Epic Games Store users will have to wait until December 29 to find out about that particular free game.
