SuperAwesome creates tools for developers that allow them to make online gaming safer for kids. This includes features like parental controls that give parents more say over what their children are exposed to and goes on to cover things like AwesomeAds, giving developers the ability to monetize their products in kid-friendly ways. Epic Games may begin using these tools in its own games.

Sweeney’s statement claims that now more than ever, kids are using the internet and online gaming as a way to connect with each other and find entertainment. Because of this, it is very important that big companies like Epic Games do what they can to protect children during online interactions. This stance certainly makes Epic look good, and Sweeney’s words couldn’t ring truer.

It’s unclear exactly what Epic plans to do with SuperAwesome, though it is likely that players will start to notice some minor changes in some of their titles. Previously, Epic invested $15 million into CORE under the pretense that gaming would be a user-driven industry in the near future, so maybe the acquisition of SuperAwesome will be used to help independent developers make safer games as well.
